“We’re giving you a free ticket to the period and place of your choice: where do you go? Do you stay where you are, or venture somewhere far away? Do you go all the way back to prehistoric times, or relive a fun moment you just had last year?“
My favorite pastime back when I was in junior high school was looking at one of history books full of ancient remains of the world in the school library.
On almost every school day, I would go to the library when the bell rang for the break after lunch, gazing upon the pictures of those relics and monuments, and imagining what it was like in those days. I often spent almost the entire break daydreaming on them.
I particularly liked stone monuments and temples or some ruined ones like in Egypt and in Latin America. I always wondered how people managed to build those massive and magnificent monuments. What made them to work hard for those great work? How did they actually realize the feat? What kind of drama was behind it? What kind of faith did they have? How did they see the world around them?
And having written about this, I just remember why I started getting interested in those ancient civilization. We have lots of Manga stories in Japan on those theme! A modern girl accidentally time-travels backwards to the ancient Egypt, or like that. We have lots of that. Then I also remember every girl of those Manga falls in love with a king or a prince. Haha. 😀
But truly, I like those ancient monuments! They fuel our imagination.
So, give me a ticket to one of those places at the exact time of the construction! Maybe the most difficult is which to go to.
